Coming into Advent
We hope all of you are enjoying this wonderful Advent season along with all the sights and sounds of the Christmas holiday. We are sure that by now many of you are busy with programs, preparations, and packages that have all become a part of this time of year. We find ourself still busy preaching revivals and will be continuing to do so through Dec. 17, before we get our Christmas break.
At our last report, we were at the Oak Hill United Brethren Church in Lesage, WV with Pastor James Jefferson on Nov. 14-18. We had a very good meeting there with the church nearly full every night. Various church choirs provided the special music for the meeting. The choir from Sunrise Temple Baptist Chapel with Pastor Mark Finley sang on Monday. The choir from Beulah Ann Baptist Church sang on Tuesday. The choir from Z-Warner United Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry Ryder sang on Wendnesday and the Valley of Decision Missionary Baptist choir sang on Thursday. We had great time of fellowship and worship with all of these groups.
Our next meeting was a one night engagement on Nov. 20 at the Hayden Enterprise Baptisit Church with Pastor Bill Webb in Hilliard, OH. The meeting went through the whole week but they had different preachers for each night. This is a very vibrant congregation with excellent music. We always enjoy getting the opportunity to worship with them.
While in the Columbus area, we got to spend the night with our youngest son, Matthew, and attended church with him on Sunday morning at the Hillcrest Baptist Church over in the Hilltop area.
We began our next revival on Sunday night, Nov. 21, at the Pine Ridge Wesleyan Church near Londonderry, OH. Although this was about 75 miles away from home, we chose to drive back and forth each night in order to get to sleep in our own bed for a change. The Pine Ridge Church is a very small rural church that is currently without a pastor. However, we had good services and there was a good spirit in the meeting. We enjoyed the music of the Bates Sisters as they provided the special music for the meeting. Several visitors came in support of the meeting which boosted the attendance to nearly two dozen on some evenings. Our friends, Rev. & Mrs. Phil Ridenour came from Albany. We also had friends that came from the Pleasant Ridge CCCU, Jackson Trinity CCCU, Oak Hill Trinity Wesleyan, and Allensville CCCU. Some also came from Pleasant Valley Holiness Church and Otterbein Methodist Church.
We finished the meeting at Pine Ridge on Wednesday, Nov. 24 and then took the next three days off for a Thanksgiving break. This was our first Thanksgiving without my brother. We certainly missed him dearly and it was difficult but we had a good day visiting with family and were thankful for all the good memories. We refused to allow the sadness and sorrow of the last year of his life over-shadow the joy and happiness of the other fifty years that we had with him.
Our next revival was held Nov. 28-Dec. 1, at the Westwood Wesleyan Church in Westwood, Ky with Pastor Phil Zimmerman. Special music was provided by folks from the Trace Wesleyan Church and also from Ashland Heights Wesleyan Church. Other churches that supported the meeting were the Ashland Bible Missionary Church, Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church, Sedgewick Methodist Church, Fairview Baptist Church, and Summit Church of the Nazarene. It was also good to have Rev. & Mrs. Gordon Tilley and Rev. & Mrs. Willard Metz in the services.
We are currently in revival at the Feed Springs Church near Uhrichsville, OH with Pastor Milo Baker. This meeting will conclude on Sunday, Dec. 12. Our last meeting before Christmas will be held on Dec. 13-17, at the Morgan Center Holiness Church with Pastor Ted Russell near Bidwell, OH.
