Saving Grace: in the Hocking Hills
Our last revival put us in the beautiful Hocking Hills State Park area near Logan, OH on April 25-28. We were about 15 miles from there out in the country at the Coonville Holiness Church with Pastor James & Donna Mathias. Pastor Mathias has been pastoring there for about 40 years now. How remarkable is that? Way to go, Bro. Jim!
There was an eagerness for the revival among the congregation and a sincere hunger for the Word of God. During the meeting we had the privilege to work with Robert & Shari Whightsel from Reynoldsburg, OH who are the youth leaders at the Gahanna Church of Christ in Christian Union. They did a good job of leading us in worship and providing the special music for the services. It was very uplifting and encouraging. If you would be interested in having them at your church, you can contact them at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The church was nearly full for most of the services due primarily to the faithful support and attendance from area churches. Among them were: Pastor Mike Thomas and the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church; Pastor Tim Poling and the Murray City Wesleyan Church; Pastor Dave Cogar and the Oak Grove Wesleyan Church; Amesville Bethel Wesleyan Church; McArthur Church of the Nazarene; Wellston Church of the Nazarene; Pleasant Ridge CCCU; Haydenville United Methodist; and House of Faith Ministries.
We are sure that by now some of you are wondering why we titled this update "Saving Grace"? Well, we are glad you asked, you are still asking good questions. Since you brought it up, lets dicuss it. We realize that if we are anything at all, it is by the grace of God. We also realize the we could not do what we do nor go like we go but by the grace of God and the reason we do it is so that others can experience this same grace. Perhaps the leading cause of discouragement, especailly among pastors and evangelists, is barren altars. So, when we see people of all ages come to the Lord and experience this amazing grace, it makes all the miles and time away from home worth it. That was the case in this revival. There had not been many visible results in response to the sermons until the last night. Prior to the preaching we had been asked to anoint and pray for several individuals for various physical needs. Among them was an older lady (about 70 according to her sister) that was on oxygen and had attended every service of the revival. We assumed that she must have already been a believer because of her faithfulness to the meeting and her desire to be anointed. However, during the altar call at the conclusion of the sermon, we were reminded not to make such assumptions when she came forward to be saved. She was a good person but realized after all these years she was still lost and needed to be saved. The odds of someone her age getting saved is about 1 in 700,000. This was a wonderful example of the mercy and grace of God. Ironically, her name was Grace. Thank you Lord for saving Grace!!!
Thanks for your continued prayer and financial support of this ministry and thanks for having a part in saving Grace.
Together for souls,
George & Pattie
